Process Safety Management for Operations (PSMO) – Site‑Specific Process Safety Training

The “Blue Card”

Overview

Operations and maintenance teams are at the front line of process safety. Process Safety Management for Operations (PSMO) is a two‑day course designed to provide operators, maintenance technicians and contractors with essential process safety training aligned to industry standards. Delegates focus on site‑specific hazards and control measures, learning how process safety principles apply to the plant or process they operate or maintain.

Through presentations, case studies and interactive discussions, the course emphasises the role of operations and maintenance in ensuring effective process safety, including emergency planning and learning from incidents. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how to keep processes safe and how their actions contribute to overall safety performance.

Who Should Attend
  • Operators and maintenance technicians working in high‑hazard industries.
  • Long‑term contractors and technicians who support process operations.
  • Any personnel responsible for operating or maintaining hazardous plant who require a practical understanding of process safety.

After completing this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify hazards, risks and consequences associated with hazardous substances and processes.
  • Recognise site‑specific hazards, consequences and safeguards, applying this knowledge to the plant or process they operate.
  • Explain how to keep the process safe, understanding the role of operations and maintenance in ensuring effective process safety.
  • Describe emergency planning and incident mitigation measures to limit the consequences of process incidents.
  • Apply learning from incidents and near misses to improve safety and prevent recurrence.
