What is a SkillGuard number?
A SkillGuard number is the unique number shown on the front of a Causeway SkillGuard for Utilities card. It is linked to that individual’s personal training and competency record on the SkillGuard for Utilities database, and it is required to access Thames Water sites.
A SkillGuard number is 10 digits long and begins with the prefix “16” (e.g. 16-XXXXXXXX).
Why do I need a SkillGuard number?
A current and valid SkillGuard number is required for every delegate booked onto Thames Water Safety Passport training.
Important: competency cannot be awarded on a delegate’s SkillGuard record without a valid SkillGuard number. This can be provided after they complete the training course.
How do I obtain a SkillGuard number?
How you obtain a SkillGuard number depends on whether your company is already registered with SkillGuard for Utilities.
If your company is already registered with SkillGuard for Utilities:
- Log in to SkillGuard for Utilities.
- Select “Search for My People”.
- Press Search to find the SkillGuard number for any of your registered employees.
If your company is not yet registered with SkillGuard for Utilities:
- You will need to register your company with SkillGuard for Utilities before SkillGuard numbers can be issued for your workforce.
- Once registered, you can look up or generate SkillGuard numbers for your employees via the platform.
If you need help with registration or technical access issues, contact the SkillGuard for Utilities Help Desk for support.
What information do I need to provide when booking training?
When booking employees onto Thames Water Safety Passport training, the training provider will need each delegate’s SkillGuard number, date of birth, and surname so they can correctly update the SkillGuard record once training is complete.
What happens if a delegate doesn’t have a SkillGuard number on the day of training?
A delegate can attend and ECI Hub Thames Water Trainging session without a SkillGuard number. However, if a delegate cannot demonstrate a valid SkillGuard number, their competency cannot be recorded against their SkillGuard record. The qualification will not be awarded until they have completed the course AND provided us with their SkillGuard number.
Does a SkillGuard card expiry date mean the competency has expired?
Not necessarily. The card expiry date shown on a SkillGuard card is not the same as the competency expiry date. This is a common source of confusion, so please check the competency record itself (not just the card) to confirm whether Thames Water Safety Passport training is still valid. Passport training is generally valid for 3 years from the date of training.
